This is not how most people expected their coffee to be, but when you love coffee as much as we do you get creative with it. :)
Well lets break the rules. Who said coffee is just for brewing. Coffee grounds gives a nice exfoliate that is not too rough as sea salt or too sugary soft that it melts away as soon as it touches your skin. But of course we don't really care much about that! :) What we do love is that these handmade crafted coffee soap look sooooo.....hip! or looks like natural stone?! or like chocolate?! or love the marble look! or.... (we will leave that to your creative minds to describe these soaps).
Well for those who are really in to the soap making craft we are sharing our soap making craft steps below.
Ground coffee - finely grind and freshly grind preferably, soap base that is melt and pour (we use goat's milk soap base), beeswax just 1/2 a tablespoon (optional), caledula oil or just plain olive oil and essential oil of your choice (optional). The coffee ground actually has the nice coffee smell but the smell does not stick to your skin. (Who would want to be walking around smelling like coffee!)
Equipments you will need are - bowls to melt your soap and a silicon mold of your choice. Oh! and a microwave!
We melted the beeswax with the olive oil in burst of 20 secs in the microwave. Note that it takes sometime to melt the beeswax so you may need to zap it back in the microwave a couple of times. It is not necessary to use beeswax but if you like your soap to last longer it will harden your soap (but use sparingly) it works great with goat's milk soap because goat's milk soap is very soft. You can opt to use other soap or just repurpose a soap. On a separate container / bowl we melted the goat's milk soap base for 20 secs inside the microwave (watch that it does not bubble up so much). Mix the oil to the soap base. Stir gently so you don't create a lot of bubbles. Pour half of the soap mixture to the container you just used with the oil+ beeswax and add the coffee grounds to it. You will get this dark brown and muddy looking soap mixture. Pour the white soap in the mold just about 1/3. Then pour the coffee soap mixture. Then pour the remaining white soapy over. To get that nice swirl use a popsicle stick to stir it a bit to help swirl.
Note: While pouring if your soap starts to thicken just pop it back to the microwave. It is key to keep it in pouring consistency.
Leave the soap to dry fro 8 hours and pop them out of the molds!
Don't they look yummy! But these are SOAPS so we are NOT going to eat them! We will enjoy these in the shower to perk us up in the morning!
