Make your own Halloween Shout-Out Board - something old to something new

Chalkboards signs are such a thing now. Everywhere you go or just surfing the net you see images of chalkboard signs. As we were going through all our stuff we happen to find this old small chalk board dusting away. Hmmm...why not put this to good use. 
If you have kids am sure you may find an old whiteboard or clip board or cork board that they used to write or post their memos on. You can use those for this project as well.
Now, how to make this stand? Well guest what we found, an old book stand. Yup those heavy college books was hard to keep open and this book stand had gone through a lot of books and studying and now it is time to bring it back to life!

Here is how we pulled all these nostalgic finds and turning something old to something new.
We cleaned up the old chalk board and the book stand. If you happen to find a paint where it is not necessary for you to sand down the wood get those but if you don't have one get a find grained sand paper and just sand down the wood a bit to prep the surface. This will help the paint to adhere better.
If you have a steady hand you can just start painting your board and book stand. Just make sure you have your table covered with old newspaper. You don't want those paint all over your table. Use a small brush so you can paint small corners better. Alternately if you want that professional finished look over the rustic finish use a masking tape or painters tape to tape out the black chalk board areas or any areas you would not want the white paint to be on before you start painting. Let it dry for 24 hours. 
There you have it - a shout-out board to use anywhere. We used this for our Halloween Shout-out at the event. More like a welcome sign. :) This will be great for a buffet menu sign as well.
