Personalize your ordinary Glass Containers

Do you ever find yourself  collecting all these beautiful empty bottles of olive oils,  honey jars or sometimes soda bottles - thinking you can reuse them one day? Unfortunately, as time goes you get stock with so many of them that you just start throwing them out. Well you may want to hold on to that thought for a while. Here is a project we did with our empty olive oil bottles.

Now our table parties will have a nice olive oil and balsamic vinegar to go around the table. No one would have thought these were recycled empty olive oil bottles!

Here is how we did it. You will need the following materials...

1) 1 empty and cleaned nice olive oil bottle
2) Glass etching cream - you can purchase this cream from Oh Joy & Co.!
3) Stencils of your choice - you can purchase these stencils from Oh Joy & Co.!
3) brush
4) masking tape or painter's tape
5) plastic or rubber gloves
6) a faucet sink access to wash
7) cloth or clean rag

Lets start Crafting!

Make sure the area of the bottle to be etched is clean. Use alcohol or soap and water to clean the area. Wait for it to be completely dry before starting. Using the masking tape or painter's tape cover the areas you do not want the etching cream to get into. Plus it is also a good ruler guide for the letter stencil as we place them in to position.

Now lets put the reusable stencil on the bottle and some simple decorative element.
Stencils should easily stick to the glass and easily removed to be re-adjusted.
Ones you are satisfied with how the stencils are placed we can start etching.

Now safety first! The etching cream contains ammonium bifluoride and sodium fluoride so make sure to work in a well-ventilated area. Avoid skin contact. Wear the gloves before starting to do any application of the cream.
Carefully apply a thick layer of the cream using a medium size brush over the stencil. Make sure to cover enough cream in each area. Don't rush. Ones you have covered your whole design with the etching cream let it sit for 20 to 25 mins.

Rinse the etching cream off under running water.
Pat dry with clean cloth. Let it dry fully before taking out the stencils and masking tape.

Now you have turned your ordinary "recycled" bottle in to something to talk about the next time you place that Olive Oil bottle on the dinner party table.
