Summer Paper Fans

Here’s a craft to beat the summer heat! Well, not really, but it’s a really nice decoration you can display in your room or at a party (and you can feel a bit of some air if you use it too!) Kids can also make this craft in a breeze.

To make your own paper fan, you will need the following materials:
1. Cardstock Paper - Patterned cardstock paper will make your fan look nice!
2. Clothespins - We used our themed clothespins.
3. Yarn

You will also need a pair of scissors and/or cutter, and a bone knife for scoring (alternately you can just use a pen with out the ball point to use for scoring). It’s also
better if you have a scoring board but if not a cutting mat will do.

First, get a piece of cardstock paper and cut it to your desired height. Its height should be suitable to your clothespins’ size and should not be too heavy or too big for it to hold. Get the width of your clothespin and score your cardstock paper according to your clothespin’s width. A scoring board should make the job easy for you. You can also fold it manually without scoring but for the sake of accuracy and neatness, measuring and scoring will help you make a nice fan.

Once you’ve scored the lines on your cardstock paper, you should be able to fold everything neatly and easily and form an accordion.

Hold the bottom of the accordion and insert it into your clothespin. Hide the excess paper by twirling a yarn around the clothespin until excess paper is covered.

And you have yourself a paper fan! Remember, you can always choose bigger clothespins and make bigger fans. And don't forget to let the kids give it a try. It's the perfect craft for them to do at home this summer.
