A Modern twist to the traditional Red Envelop this CNY!

Let us start off by greeting you a Happy Chinese New Year!
恭禧發財!

Our first CNY craft was a modern craft that can add some fun in your CNY celebrations.  Instead of the usual NEW Year party favors we turned it to fit a CNY celebration. You can check out the craft here. For this craft - it is a modern twist to the traditional red envelope. But of course you can use any kind of material you choose for this project. We just went for the felt fabric material for that unique look and stuff toy feel.

Let's get started! You will need to download our free template of the envelop and monkey. (Click here for the link).
For the materials you will need...
1) Glue gun + glue stick
2) Ordinary white glue
3) scissors
4) white card stock or paper stock - you can use colored ones - we use white and printed on it
5) black marker
6) wiggly eyes (if you can't find these you can just draw the eyes or cut two white circles and draw the black circle on it)
7) felt fabric - colors beige and brown

We suggest to cut out all your materials first after printing out the templates. This will make crafting this envelop easier. Then assemble the envelope. While waiting for the envelope to dry start assembling the monkey. With felt fabric we found using glue gun to glue each layer together easier and faster. Start with the head of monkey and taking the largest cut out piece and build on the layers. The smallest piece will be the last piece to be glued on as you can see the step by step photo below.. Same principle applies to the body of the monkey. Start with the biggest piece and the smaller one goes on top of it. Ones the monkey is all assembled together attach the head to the body and glue it on to the envelope. The finishing touch would be the monkey Chinese character coin. Affix on top of the monkey's feet and hands so it looks like it is holding the good luck coin. There you have it your unique looking tǎo hóngbāo (red envleope)
